Sing song merrily on high

UTTOXETER'S oldest choir have brought the house down at a pre- Christmas concert celebrating the works of Mozart and Schubert.  The Uttoxeter Choral Society, founded in 1881, took to the stage at St Mary’s Parish Church led for the first time by conductor Anthony Rose.

The choir and invited guests gathered at the Bank House Hotel before the show as they built up to the special event.  The evening was hailed a fantastic success by chairman Fiona Shaw who called the concert the ‘start of a new era’ for the society.  She told the Advertiser: “It was absolutely superb. Anthony feeling Rosy about choir

Anthony RoseWith more than 100 years of music making under its belt, it cannot be said the Uttoxeter Choral Society (UCS) do not know how to make music. Yet, over the last few years the confidence of its 70-plus choristers has slipped.

    Wolfgang inspires celebrated choir

5 singers round a pianoUTTOXETER'S oldest and most celebrated choir will be performing a classical concert inspired by the music of Mozart and Schubert later this month.

The Uttoxeter Choral Society was founded in 1881, making it the third-oldest in the UK and it has long been a part of the cultural fabric of Uttoxeter life.

Many people in the region are likely to be aware of the choir but may not have had the opportunity in recent years to share in the uplifting experience of one of their concerts.

The 50-strong group draw their enthusiastic members from both the Staffordshire and Derbyshire region and cover a wide range of talents and ages.

The concert of Mozart and Schubert on Saturday, November 28, at St Mary’s Parish Church, Uttoxeter, will be used by the choir as an awareness-raising opportunity and will be the first for new conductor Anthony Rose.
